Lees Court has been the ancestral Estate of the Sondes family for almost 800 years. Lees Court has been described as the finest estate in Kent and extends to 6,900 acres. The Estate has been growing specialty crops since 2004 and benefits from some of the finest grade 1 soil in the UK. Lees Court is within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and surrounds the villages of Sheldwich and Badlesmere.
The Estate places a very high priority on conservation management to improve biodiversity. Lees Court instigated a five-year conservation and biodiversity related project working closely with The Durrell Institute of Conservation of Ecology. Through extensive audits and comparative analysis with other estates, the study demonstrated clear conservation and biodiversity benefits through Lees Court’s application of cutting-edge land management practices. The Estate has many Countryside Stewardship and Environmental Schemes and is a member of the Red Tractor Scheme.
The Estate has developed a highly respected reputation given the extensive range of crops grown and trialled as part of its major R&D programme.
