Nutraceuticals
A nutraceutical is any substance that may be considered a food or part of a food and that provides medical or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease. Such products may range from isolated nutrients, dietary supplements and diets to genetically engineered ‘designer’ foods, herbal products and processed foods such as cereals, soups and beverages.
Cosmeceuticals
The term ‘cosmeceutical’ is becoming more commonplace in the world of natural organic skincare. The word describes a product that is a cross between a cosmetic and a pharmaceutical. A cosmeceutical is essentially a skincare product that contains a biologically active compound that is thought to have pharmaceutical effects on the skin. The cosmeceutical industry is a relatively new phenomenon, although the practice or concept has been around for thousands of years.
Flavour and Fragrance
Food and other consumable products and flavourings total the same as beverages alone. Thanks to many thousands of species of plants, countless flavonoids have been extracted and introduced into foods, drinks, confectionery items and pharmaceutical preparations.
Fragrances are complex combinations of natural and/or man-made substances. They are used in a wide variety of products to impart a pleasant aroma and enhance the experience of using the product.
